With Balkansky on tour in our area, I round up some great Balkan music, both traditional and modern, to share with you. Plus a few new releases and such in the latter part of the show. Thanks for listening!

Carnival season is in full swing, and we’re celebrating with festive music from Brazil, New Orleans, and other corners of the globe where people know how to party musically. Plus sprinklings of Balkan music, since this weekend also brings the 3rd Annual Balkan Night Northwest to Seattle. Call it… Mardi-Balk!

This week, a goulash of global sounds, old and new, far and wide. With some sparkling fresh releases from the likes of Autorickshaw, Chambao, and Flavia Coehlo, and a special NW Balkan set previewing a show happening tonight at Ballard’s Oddfellows Hall (see Calendar).
Special thanks to everyone who became a new KAOS member or renewed membership during the fall drive… you make shows like Spin The Globe (and Cover the Earth, and Xenophilia, and Junglee Hour, and Sonidos de la Tierra, and Sundrenched, etc.) possible! And it’s not too late to become a listener-member — just head over to KAOSradio.org.
Thanks to David and Seamus of the Artesian Rumble Arkestra for coming in today to share some background on the band, community-based music in general, and the general sexiness of the tuba. The show included some exclusive ARA tunes recorded live in the KAOS performance studio, along with lots of Balkan music to get you all ready for this weekend’s Balkan Night Northwest.
I love to hear from listeners when I’m on the air, and when I’m not, I’d love to hear from you via the website or Facebook page, where you can also get your free Daily Spin: http://facebook.com/spintheglobe
Not one but two special features in this week’s show. First we heard from Christos Govetas about Seattle’s first annual Balkan Night Northwest, happening March 10 (http://www.balkannightnw.com) sandwiched amongst some tasty Balkan music.
Then in the second hour, we had live guitar music in the KAOS studios from touring musician Goh Kurosawa (http://www.happysad.org/goh/english/index.html). It was all over too quickly, alas.
