Marching bands, brass bands, Balkan bands, samba bands. All that and more this week, as we celebrate this weekend’s annual Procession of the Species here in Olympia, and the broader idea of music made on streets, out in the fresh air.
One last call this spring for you to support us by going to the KAOS website right now to join or renew your membership — This year marks the station’s 40th anniversary, so your support is especially festive at this key juncture! Thanks.
I love to hear from listeners when I’m on the air, and when I’m not, I’d love to hear from you via the website or Facebook page, where you can also get your free Daily Spin: http://facebook.com/spintheglobe
What a blast to be joined in the studio by Brass Menažeri as they start their farewell tour. Group leader/founder Peter Jaques is headed off to Greece to study music, and the band is calling it quits. But not before shows in Seattle, Vancouver BC, Olympia, Santa Cruz, and their home base of Oakland. If you’re on the West Coast, don’t miss your last chance to see these guys live! They joined us for a live studio set and a little conversation this week. Thanks to Nicki for engineering!
When the show isn’t on the air, we’d love to hear from you via the website or Facebook page, where you can also get your free Daily Spin: http://facebook.com/spintheglobe
This week’s show, inspired by this weekend’s HonkFest West, provides an invigorating blast of brass, drum, and marching band music the likes of which you’ll experience in the streets of Seattle this weekend. If you dare!
Also, a slew of new releases in hour 2. And congrats to the winners of the ticket giveaway for the OMO Africa show. Perhaps I’ll see you at one of these events. Whatever you are up to, remember to live locally and groove globally!
