We celebrate Cinco de Mayo and the start of Ramadan (they’re not unrelated; did you know that there are over a million Arabs in Mexico?), with music from Muslim nations and Mexico, along with a few new releases and other tasty tidbits.

Yeah, it’s a few days before Cinco de Mayo, but no matter — we’ll celebrate this commemoration of a Mexican military victory with some peaceful but rambunctious Mexican music from both sides of the border.

May 4 marks the birthday of Oum Kulthoum, and May 5 is the Mexican-inspired global party known as Cinco de Mayo, so we celebrates the best of both with a show ping-ponging between Egypt and Mexico. Plus a heap of new releases in hour 2.
Mexico is on our mind this week as Mexican harpist/multi-instrumentalist Celso Duarte rolls into town for a show. And the Balkans are never far from thought. So we combined the two in one of our famous ping-ponging shows, alternating between two very different nations in the pursuit of one global musical groove.
And you can still grab this show — and subscribe so you’ll never miss an episode — via iTunes.
